The Campfire Circle Paddle Project: A Tradition of Art, Community & Purpose
First launched in 2010, the Campfire Circle Paddle Project is a cherished tradition that blends art, community, and purpose. Renowned artists, designers, athletes, and celebrities transform blank 54” canoe paddles into extraordinary, one-of-a-kind works of art. More than 100 paddles are auctioned online to raise funds and awareness for Campfire Circle, an organization that supports children with cancer or serious illness. It supports Campfire Circle’s mission to deliver camp-inspired, medically supported programs that promote resilience, social connection, and well-being for children and their families.
Each paddle is a powerful symbol of creativity, resilience, and the joy of camp.
Notable contributors over the years have included Carly Rae Jepsen, Sarah McLachlan, The Tragically Hip, Edward Norton, the Toronto Raptors, and Arkells, each lending their creativity to raise awareness and support.
In the shared belief that art has the power to inspire, connect, and make a positive impact, Fête Chinoise proudly supported the Paddle Project in 2020 and 2023, transforming our cover art into hand-painted paddles that give back through design.
2023 Design: Inspired by the Design Annual 2023 cover, this paddle featured hand-drawn chinoiserie elements, reflecting the intricate beauty and storytelling of traditional East Asian art.
2020 Design: A classic blue-and-white porcelain-inspired paddle, inspired by the design of our cover of the 6th Edition of our magazine, Time + Tempo. This paddle was painted to resemble a delicate vase with a continuous wraparound design—lovingly created during the pandemic's first year, baby in tow, by our Editor-in-Chief Deborah Lau-Yu. We’re honoured to be part of this incredible initiative—one that proves how creativity can make a lasting impact. Stay tuned for the next Campfire Circle Paddle Project Auction coming soon online and in-person!
