The festival of TIFF is back after the pandemic, and the City of Toronto is abuzz with events at hotels, restaurants, lounges and of course, the TIFF Lightbox. One name that we're all excited for at Fête Chinoise is, of course, Michelle Yeoh who received the inaugural Share Her Journey Groundbreakers Award by Bulgari. Not only was her film, Everything Everywhere All At Once, a global success story this year, she also received her honorary doctorate degree from the American Film Institute. She has also had numerous stunning editorials published with Town & Country and Vogue, which we shared in our Weekly Newsletters. It is the year of Michelle Yeoh.

After appearing in James Gunn’s second installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Yeoh returned to the Marvel universe in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi. In March 2022, she starred in Daniels’ mind-bending, critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has since become A24’s highest grossing film. In 2022, Yeoh was once again featured in TIME100’s “Most Influential People” list. She is a role model to many Asian diaspora children who dream to be in film and performance, and specifically, women of Asian cultures. She is a force in supporting other women and young talent.

Recently announced, just as she recently won her new award, she will also star in the upcoming “American Born Chinese” series adaptation at Disney Plus. Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese comes from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton and writer & executive producer Kelvin Yu. It is a genre-hopping action-comedy that explores issues of identity, culture, and family.
