Awarded "Best Cultural Event" at the BizBash 2020 Event Style Awards

Fete Chinoise is so honoured to be recently awarded “Best Cultural Event” by the authority on events in North America, BizBash! That a Chinese-Canadian event takes home gold in a competitive pool of events in North America, is a huge moment. Since the pandemic is still upon us, the annual party in New York City was a virtual event this year. We look forward to the future, when we can host events such as our signature gala again.

Here’s a fun fact about the gala that reminds us of how events are such an important part of our social and cultural fabric: Fete Chinoise Signature Event, kicking off the Year of the Rat in 2020, became the last major event to take place at the historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel before the country was shut down. We don’t know when big events will be back after the pandemic is over, but together with many guests, we cherish this special memory and incredible experience in an iconic Toronto building!

This is the 2nd BizBash Event Style Award for Fete Chinoise, and the 6th time we have been nominated as a finalist in our categories. (In 2018, we took home the award for “Best Non-Profit Event Concept under $250K” for our signature event at the Shangri-La Toronto.) Our 2020 gala, our 5th anniversary edition, Dreams Take Flight (sharing the same name as our annual magazine) was widely covered in media, covered by many Canadian outlets, including the Globe & Mail Style Advisor, National Post’s city pages, and The Kit. Thank you to our major sponsors for making this evening a huge success; to our volunteers and staff team for your hard work and dedication; our event committee for your enthusiasm and spirit; our event partners and service providers; our guests for doing culture together, our celebrity guest, Selena Lee, and our special performer and violinist, Susanne Hou, for an intimate evening of art, music, and culture.

Our mission is to move culture forward, with inspiration and meaning. There is a saying in Chinese culture that means we benefit from the shade of the trees planted by our ancestors. Therefore, we plant the seeds today, to enrich our Canadian community with incredible experiences of culture and interesting stories that will grow and thrive like the trees in a forest, providing shelter and cover for tomorrow. Culture is like a vessel that carries us, in the words of Connie Sung, from Repulse Bay Tailors, who together with her partner Tommy Sung, exhibited at our signature event. With every story, every film, artwork, event, book, product, and moment that we use to connect with our cultural roots, we add to the richness of what nourishes our community.

Thank you for tuning in, and we hope that the pandemic will be over soon, to allow us to come together in person, and have an evening as spectacular as we did here. See you at the next signature event! If you want to get involved or be a sponsor, contact us at info@fetechinoise.ca.
