Simu Liu & Jeremy Lin Headline 2022 Celebrity Basketball Game in Toronto
2022 CCYAA Celebrity Classic Presented by Virgin Plus to take place July 9, 2022 at the University of Toronto
Asian Canadian Actor / Advocate Simu Liu in partnership with the Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association (www.ccyaa.org) will host the 2022 CCYAA Celebrity Classic Powered by Virgin Plus on Saturday, July 9 2022 at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
This event will feature 20+ celebrities, athletes and personalities from the North American Asian community to help raise funds for the Jeremy Lin Foundation and the CCYAA’s new Community Centre.
Simu Liu: “The CCYAA Celebrity Classic was a massive success when we launched it in 2019. It was a celebration of diasporic Asian culture that brought together some incredible actors, musicians and influencers from around the world - and all in support of two very worthwhile causes. After a three-year hiatus, I'm excited to partner with the CCYAA and our amazing sponsors to bring the Celebrity Classic back to Toronto, in a much bigger and better way than ever before. This year, we're celebrating Asian Americans and Canadians who have broken barriers and achieved success in Hollywood, pro sports, music, comedy and food. We invite the city of Toronto to celebrate with us on July 9th!”
Celebrity guests will be announced in the coming weeks with Jeremy Lin as the first to join the roster. The 2019 NBA Champion, who is most known for his ‘Linsanity’ exploits during the New York Knicks’ 2012 season, has recently spent a lot of his time on his non-profit initiative, The Jeremy Lin Foundation (jeremylinfoundation.org). The Foundation looks to serve overlooked AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) youths in the community through a variety of programs and initiatives.
The weekend will feature the following events:
● The 2nd Annual CCYAA Celebrity Classic Presented by Virgin Plus
● Halftime performance by Canadian recording artist Alex Porat presented by HSBC Bank Canada
● The CCYAA Youth Jamboree sponsored by Align Technology’s Invisalign brand; a variety show featuring performances from local dance teams, artists, slam-dunkers and the celebrity hosts
● “Fresh-Fest” at Superfresh; an interactive experience featuring food pop-ups, art-toy displays and a merch-market
● “Comedy Night” hosted by Yuk Yuk’s Toronto which will feature a lineup of Asian stand-up comics headlined by Julie Kim
