A dedicated fan of Crowd Lu recently attended his HeartBreakFast World Tour concert in Toronto, marking the Taiwanese singer-songwriter’s return to the city after eight years. In this article, we explore the highlights of Crowd Lu’s Toronto concert, his heartfelt performances, and the unwavering support from his fans.

On April 28, 2026, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu 盧廣仲 brought his HeartBreakFast World Tour to Toronto. This marked his return to North America after eight years since his last visit in 2018. Toronto’s “Little Team Members” (小隊員, the nickname of Crowd Lu’s fans) finally received the musical cocktail we had long been waiting for.

He Has, Genuinely, Improved

When people think of Crowd Lu, the first impression is often of a creative singer-songwriter holding a guitar, with a highly distinctive voice and a slightly boyish smile. Yet in this HeartBreakFast tour, he chose to do something he had never done before—putting down the guitar he had used since his debut seventeen years ago, and performing an entire album written by others.

As someone who has been following Crowd Lu’s concerts since 2018, I can say with full responsibility: this Toronto show was the best vocal condition I have ever heard from him (apart from the moment when he briefly had a fishbone stuck in his throat).

His vocal range felt wider, his breath control more stable, and the transitions between chest voice and falsetto were so fluid that it made you forget it was ever a technical challenge. Especially for the tracks in HeartBreakFast that fall outside his usual vocal range—he has mentioned before that these songs are not in his original keys, not melodies he would typically write, and even feature chord progressions he is not accustomed to—yet live, there was no sense of strain at all. Only a natural fit, and a voice that has matured like fine wine over seventeen years.

For example, the ease of “Whisper”, the jazz-inflected atmosphere of “Lost You Twice”—my family sitting next to me and I experienced this “different Crowd Lu” for the first time. As for the songs we had been anticipating for a long time: “Sun & Earth”, “After Us”, and “Love Lost”—I could only tell my friends constantly messaging me on their phones for updates: I’m sorry you didn’t get tickets.

As for his physical condition, I can only say this: Crowd Lu looked better on stage than he did eight years ago. He is clearly and consistently training his body seriously, yet you will never find a single post on his social media showcasing his fitness achievements. This low-key nature is perhaps one of the most charming parts of who he is.

A Medley of Memories

One of the highlights of the concert was when Crowd Lu re-edited many of his classic hits into a medley. As familiar melodies began one after another, the entire venue instantly shifted into a “coming home” state—these songs were the background music to different chapters of our lives.

“Self-Complacement” + “You Complete Me” + “After Dinner” + “Final Exam” + “OH YEAH” + “He-r”

At the final line, “You are with me (有你陪我),” his extremely stable head voice, paired with crisp drum beats, and the screen fading from light to darkness—once again reminded us how fortunate we were to have secured tickets.

This arrangement reflects Crowd Lu and his team’s thoughtfulness toward their fans: they knew Toronto audiences had waited eight years, and they wouldn’t let them leave empty-handed.

Of course, there was also a tribute medley dedicated to his late friend Khalil Fong. “Love Song”, “Twenty Three”, “Special Person”, and “This Love” were performed without excessive sentimentality, only sincere remembrance.

Things That Were Never Said

Observing Crowd Lu carries a peculiar kind of joy—you begin to realise that what is most captivating about him is often what he does not explicitly say or intentionally display.

The patterns on his forearms, which from a distance appear to be tattoos, are actually stickers. According to observant fans online, these drawings are sketches of himself created by his niece. A singer-songwriter who has received the “Three Golden Awards” (三金)—referring to the Golden Melody Awards (金曲獎), Golden Bell Awards (金鐘獎), and Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎), the highest honours in Taiwan music, television, and film—chose, nearly two decades into his career, to step onto the stage with his niece’s doodles on his arm. There is perhaps nothing more quintessentially Crowd Lu than that.

His styling is another good example. At first glance, his outfits are not flashy—no exaggerated prints, no prominent logos. But if you look closely, the tailoring of Balenciaga and the detailing of Thom Browne are quietly present, speaking without making noise. This is a kind of aesthetic belonging to someone who truly understands clothing: it does not need to be seen, but those who understand will recognise it instantly.

All-You-Can-Eat Heartbreak Breakfast

Crowd Lu said something on stage that stayed with me for a long time: that singing is a kind of qigong (breathing in and out), and so is life itself. Not only can singing sound beautiful, but a person’s life can also sound beautiful—so beautiful that it can influence other lives.

On the night of April 28, he truly did that. Some cried, some laughed, some turned to the person next to them and said, “I really love this song.” Others closed their eyes during the most familiar choruses. This is all a concert needs to do.

I only hope we do not have to wait another eight years.
