During a break from her flight schedule in 2008, Skye Chan spotted a television advertisement for Miss Hong Kong pageant entrants. Most flight attendants might have dismissed the idea immediately. Chan had built her reputation on efficiency and professionalism, not the polished glamour typically associated with beauty competitions.
Yet something about the opportunity intrigued her. At twenty-three, Chan knew the eligibility cutoff of twenty-four made this her only opportunity to apply, so she downloaded the form and asked her mother to be her nominee. “You never know until you take a step forward,” she says.
Chan had no illusions about her chances.
Flight scheduling conflicts meant she missed the first round of interviews entirely, only showing up for the second round. “I was surprised because it was such a competitive lineup,” she says. “And I was just way too innocent about how to make myself look better and shine on stage.”

Friends and colleagues were stunned – not by her placement, but that the methodical flight attendant had entered a beauty pageant at all. Yet that lack of pageant polish worked in her favour. The panel of judges saw her no-nonsense confidence for what it was.
Chan placed first runner-up.
When the winner’s contract was suspended due to a public controversy, Chan found herself assuming the winner’s duties, effectively becoming Miss Hong Kong. What happened next would reshape her career entirely.
The Miss Hong Kong crown came with something Chan hadn’t anticipated: a contract with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), Hong Kong’s dominant free-to-air commercial television broadcaster and the pageant’s organizer. As one of Asia’s largest commercial broadcasting companies, TVB has been the launching pad for countless Hong Kong entertainment careers.

Suddenly, the flight attendant who had downloaded a pageant application on a whim found herself with a foothold in one of Asia’s most competitive entertainment industries. Working for TVB, Chan was dispatched to Miss World 2008 and Miss Chinese International 2009 – high-profile assignments that kept the new titleholder in the public eye.

Chan’s response to this life-altering opportunity was low-key but decisive.“I just changed companies, that’s all,” she says of the transition. “I was working for Cathay Pacific, and then I worked for TVB.”
This matter-of-fact assessment became her trademark approach to career transformation. The exposure proved useful when TVB tapped her to co-host its primetime variety show Scoop, pairing her with veteran presenter Carol (Do Do) Cheng. Her multilingual abilities proved invaluable. She speaks English, Japanese, Mandarin, and Cantonese, grounded in her Japanese studies degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. “I’ve liked imitating people speaking in different languages since I was young,” she says. “And, most importantly, I just love talking.”
選擇主持路向
港姐出身的藝人，常見傳統路徑是從演戲起步，繼而嫁入豪門，倩揚卻選擇以主持立足。「可能 TVB 認為我性格獨立及溝通能力好，更適合當主持工作。」2009 年三月，《東張西望》節目改版，倩揚尚未完成一年港姐合約，便破格成為主持。她以親民自然的主持風格贏得觀眾喜愛，成為該黃金檔期節目主持六年之久。其間，她亦有參演多部電視劇，包括《衝上雲霄II》、《洪武三十二》等等，當中在《使徒行者》中飾卧底 Ada一角，更廣為觀眾認識及喜愛。
「主持不需要扮演別人，只要做最好的自己。而且《東張西望》工作時間較穩定，方便我照顧家庭。」令人意外的是，倩揚沒有為事業推遲組織家庭的計劃。當選港姐兩年後、在事業走上軌道之際，她毅然選擇成家，與交往八年的男友結婚，並先後誕下兩子一女，組織幸福家庭。這或許算是她最反其道而行的選擇，證明事業與家庭並非二選一不可，而是一場時間與心力的調配的藝術。「我和先生均喜歡小朋友，認為早生比較理想。我也相信事業與家庭可以同時兼顧，事在人為。」

In December 2015, a program reform at TVB brought Chan’s six-year run as co-host of Scoop to a close. By July 2016, her contract with the network had come to its natural end. Rather than renew, Chan made a conscious decision to step away—likening it to graduating from the comfort of a well-shaded tree, and setting off like a backpacker in search of new growth and wider horizons. This marked the close of an eight-year chapter that began with her Miss Hong Kong debut and extended to roles in acclaimed dramas such as Raising the Bar and Line Walker.
Soon after, Chan was invited by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to co-host the health and medical radio program Healthpedia (精靈一點), as well as the television show Everyday 8:30 (日常八點半), stepping confidently into a new broadcasting platform. At the same time, she remained a prominent public figure—actively taking on brand ambassadorships, commercial endorsements, and hosting for major galas and events, a role she continues to embrace today—even while spending extended time in Toronto.
產後追求健康生活
成為三孩之母的倩揚，因產後增磅不少，於是決心鑽研親子健康飲食，找出既不用捱餓又同時有效減磅的方法。從此，開啟了她人生的另一舞台，開始將自己「開心食、輕鬆減、飽住瘦」、成功減去三十磅的經驗，透過社交媒體直播以及網上影片，與無數同樣受身型與身份困擾的觀眾和粉絲對話。自二零二零年起，倩揚開始編寫《低醣飲食生活提案》系列，之後每年出版一本，至二零二四年共推出四冊，均榮登暢銷書榜。倩揚從此以「健康瘦身達人」的身份，奠定健康生活倡導者地位。她所推崇的方法不談「如何速效減肥」，而是健康第一，講求平衡生活習慣，從內而外重塑更理想的自己。至今，陳倩揚的 Facebook 追蹤者接近二十萬人、YouTube 超過四萬、Instagram 亦有逾兩萬粉絲，是廣大讀者心目中值得信賴的健康導師。
She had married mechanical engineering professor Chan Ho-Yin in 2010 after eight years together. Their three children, born in 2011, 2015 and 2018, arrived during her career expansion into different media platforms. During this time, Chan became an early social media adopter, initially sharing parenting advice and recipes on Facebook.

Following her youngest child’s birth in 2018, Chan took an unconventional approach to postpartum fitness. Rather than immediately launching into weight loss routines, she waited a full year, focusing instead on recovery and establishing family routines with three young children. When she finally began documenting her health journey on social media, she shared the unglamorous reality alongside the progress – the interrupted workouts, the meal prep struggles, the gradual physical changes that take months, not weeks. This honest sharing of the actual postpartum experience, rather than polished transformation photos, resonated with mothers navigating similar challenges. Her following grew to 186,000 Facebook subscribers, 283,000 Instagram followers and 414,000 YouTube subscribers.
This online success generated tangible opportunities: four volumes in her Low Carbohydrate Meal Plan series, published annually from 2021 to 2024 by Wan Li Book Company (with Volume 2 co-authored alongside nutritionist Sylvia Lam), and speaking opportunities at four consecutive Hong Kong Book Fairs. The series focused on sustainable, healthy eating habits, low-carb meal plans that emphasize satiety, family practicality, and long-term health—resonating strongly with everyday readers.
移居加拿大適應新節奏
縱使社交媒體無遠弗屆，陳倩揚依然希望親身感受不同的生活模式，擴闊視野。二零二二年她再次重新出發，
與家人移居地球另一端，在加拿大多倫多展開新生活。投入新國度的她，一方面繼續推廣健康飲食生活，同時積極參與當地華人媒體工作，更於四十歲前重返校園，修讀電視廣播與製作，挑戰自己在鏡頭背後的另一種專業。「過往經常參與影片拍攝及剪接，所以希望在製作方面認識更多。在學期間要與不同年紀及背景的同學合作，是挑戰也是另類學習。」最終倩揚以一級榮譽畢業，再次證明她不斷突破自己的毅力。

The South China Morning Post reported that in 2022 one reader who had lost 30 pounds following Chan’s previous health advice queued early at the book fair specifically to purchase Chan’s latest guide. The reader, who described herself as a Skye Chan fan, referred to the former Miss Hong Kong as “her idol.”
With her health advocacy platform firmly established, Chan returned to her acting roots. She appeared in Three Lives (三命), produced by Johnnie To, one of Hong Kong cinema’s most acclaimed directors, and broadcast on ViuTV earlier this year. For Chan, working with the industry veteran represented a significant step up in her acting career. “I learned so much,” she says.
Yet despite these career triumphs, Chan expanded her operations to Toronto in mid-2022, making it her family’s primary residence while maintaining her Hong Kong professional commitments. She chose Toronto not only to broaden her family’s horizons, but also to study post-production at Seneca College—drawn by the city’s strong and growing media and post-production industry. She also intended to bring her proven low‑carb health approach to Canadian communities. “I like to challenge myself,” she says.

重回幕前嘗試
正當大家以為倩揚專注於文字市場及社交平台、淡出幕前之際，她卻被邀約參與電視及電影幕前演出，
包括 2024 年由徐寶華監製，講述華裔移居生活、在多倫多取景拍攝的加拿大本土製作電影《今天應該很高興》(Finch and Midland)。隨後，2025 年於香港 ViuTV 播出的港產劇《三命》中，倩揚更有機會與電影大師杜琪峯合作。「能有機會與銀河映像及杜 Sir 合作，感覺太夢幻，絕對是人生里程中最回味的一頁。」《三命》劇名象徵人生三線交織：選擇、機遇與堅持，恰如她人生旅程的一面鏡子。

Since creating her Toronto base, Chan has taken on more substantial acting roles, including a part in Finch & Midland, directed by Timothy Yeung and starring Anthony Wong. The feature film explores Hong Kong diaspora experiences in Scarborough’s Finch and Midland intersection – an area that became home to many Hong Kong families who relocated to Canada in the 1990s.
Chan’s own family represents another chapter in that ongoing story. Her three children have settled into Canadian schools with surprising ease. “Well, they enjoy having a lot less homework,” Chan laughs.
But beyond such practical adjustments, she has given serious thought to cultural identity. “I’m not worried about them losing Chinese culture. It’s something they grew up with and they’re very aware of it,” she says. “On the other hand, I look forward to learning about Canadian culture through their eyes.”
The Toronto expansion has worked out exactly as Chan expected. Her health content resonates with families on both sides of the Pacific, acting opportunities keep coming and her children are thriving. The Low Carbohydrate Meal Plan series has found new readers among diaspora communities seeking familiar voices in unfamiliar territories. For someone who approaches major life changes methodically, the results confirm that once again her instincts were right.
“Would I make a different choice if I could? I’m not the type of person to dwell on the past,” she says. “I prefer to move forward.”
