“It was important that the celebration reflect who we are—not just as individuals, but as a couple. The tone was calm, elegant, and anchored in a sense of closeness and ease.”
Yvonne and Kelvin met in 2015 through work, where their relationship began as a very natural friendship. Over time, a deeper connection formed, which was built on a shared love for architecture, their Hong Kong heritage, and an unassuming but unforgettable moment—when Yvonne instinctively reached for Kelvin’s hand while crossing the street. That small gesture became the quiet start of something much more.
In planning their wedding, they wanted to honour both their families and cultural roots in meaningful, intentional ways. The day began with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and the playful "door games" (堵門遊戲), where Kelvin and his groomsmen faced a series of light-hearted challenges created by the bridesmaids—everything from trivia to physical feats—in order to “earn” his way to the bride. Held in Yvonne’s childhood home, the ceremony mirrored those their parents had in Hong Kong decades ago. With family elders present, the couple served tea in keeping with tradition before visiting Kelvin’s family home to complete the second half of the ceremony.
Their Western ceremony later that day was designed to feel warm and intimate. They kept their guest list intentionally small, ensuring they could connect meaningfully with each person present. For Kelvin and Yvonne, it was important that the celebration reflected who they are—not just as individuals, but as a couple. The tone was calm, elegant, and anchored in a sense of closeness and ease.
This same balance of tradition and modernity showed up in their wardrobe choices. For the tea ceremony, Kelvin and Yvonne wore modernized Eastern attire—pieces that complemented each other and nodded to cultural heritage without being overly traditional. Their minimal, refined aesthetic extended to the décor, which embraced simplicity, clean lines, and thoughtful details that felt authentic to them.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the day came during their speech to their families. In Chinese culture, affection is more often shown through quiet gestures—like preparing cut fruit—than through spoken words. Standing in front of their loved ones, Kelvin and Yvonne shared heartfelt gratitude and appreciation, something rarely expressed so openly within their families. That moment of vulnerability and connection, surrounded by the people who shaped them, became one of the most meaningful parts of the celebration—and a memory they will always hold close.
Choosing an auspicious wedding date is important, as it can contribute to a smooth and peaceful start to your marriage. While some may view this as a cultural practice, it is believed by many that selecting the right date can set a positive tone for the future.
