Starring Louis Cheung 張繼聰, the film follows former boxing champion Cheung Lek, whose promising career is cut short by a fatal mistake that leads to ten years in prison. Upon his release, he encounters the son he has never met, setting him on an unexpected path back to the boxing world and toward reconciliation.
Cheung underwent two years of intensive physical training for the role and was closely involved in post-production. A box office success in Hong Kong, the film surpassed ten million HKD in earnings and received multiple Hong Kong Film Awards nominations, including Best Actor. Blending storytelling with dynamic boxing sequences, Golden Boy traces a journey of redemption, resilience, and rebuilding fractured family ties.
Synopsis
A decade ago, Cheung Lek was the brightest rising boxing star — known as the “Golden Boy”— until a tragic incident stripped him of his freedom. Ten years later, released from prison, he comes face to face with Fong Yuen, the son he has never met. To claim the inheritance left by Fong Yuen’s mother, Cheung must learn to live with and take care of the boy. Thrust into fatherhood and confronted by past regrets, Cheung’s life is turned upside down once more. Through conflict and gradual reconciliation with his son, he begins to understand his true purpose. Confronting the ghosts of his past, Cheung decides to return to the ring — not only to reclaim his dream, but to become the role model his son deserves.
