HONG KONG CULTURE IN CARDS
Design : Lion Rock Press
Lion Rock Press

all photos from the website of lion rock press

Fusing the everyday Hong Kong lifestyle with very Western humour is the approach behind the fun graphics and cards at family-owned Lion Rock Press. With over 100 years of family history in paper, the intrinsic understanding of ink, paper and colour make their elegant all-occasion cards an easy choice at Vancouver’s Foo Hung Curios shop! Featured here are a cheongsam/qipao graphic and a tea cup in the Famille Rose Longevity design, as well as mahjong, pork dumplings and traditional mail boxes.

TWIN JADE FOUNTAIN PEN INKS
Design: Ferris Wheel Press & Fête Chinoise
Ferris Wheel Press & Fête Chinoise

all photos provided by ferris wheel press

Jade is so precious and in many family collections of heirlooms. An aesthetically beautiful stone that signifies longevity, good health and prosperity, it was the inspiration behind the Twin Jade special ink collaboration by Ferris Wheel Press and Fête Chinoise. In two shades to celebrate the Year of the Tiger: Sunlit Jade, a warm lockwood green ink punctuated by a magnificent gold shimmer, and Moonlit Jade, which glistens with starlight silver.

sport culture X design

DRAGON, TIGER, RAPTOR
Design: Fête Chinoise, Raptors 905, CCYAA

Design and Culture are about how things intersect, including sports. The phrase curated by Fête Chinoise for this year’s Raptors 905 red pockets is a perfect intersection of Chinese culture and the Raptors name. It is something we learned as kids for lunar new year, 龍精虎猛, which translates to “the spirit of a dragon and the might (or strength or momentum) of a tiger.” The first and last characters are also the same characters as the Raptors Chinese name 猛龍. Done in swift and athletic strokes, the design captures the movement on the court.

The Chinese Canadian Youth Athletics Association launched a special edition ‘Boba Raptors’ sweatshirt in partnership with Mitchell & Ness featuring the original Toronto Raptors icon holding a bubble tea (milk tea with tapioca) on a classic grey sweatshirt, which sold out within an hour of launch. The sequel, a Boba Grizzlies sweatshirt caused long line ups in Vancouver Chinatown’s Foo Hung Curios shop.
